I spent almost 10 years as an online editor at Red Bull, which gave me opportunities to gain experience in different teams. In 2012 I took on the launch of ‘Red Bull Bike’ on the international RedBull.com site. This involved commissioning moving image projects, stories and editorial features (and writing the latter), and managing athlete profiles, event pages and social media. I also looked at what worked from empirical data/user feedback and did more of it.
I then applied much of the same logic to a new senior editor role overseeing the whole RedBull.com homepage. I worked hard to establish a unique tone of voice to chime with the audience and wrote a detailed editorial creation, SEO and house style guide, and presented this in person and through webinars.
Later I was able to set up and successfully manage a team of freelancers who sub and quality-check all content published on the website and ‘curate’ the homepage, providing a continuous service every single day of the year.
